Saltfish Freediving offers freediving courses from beginner level all the way up to advanced level through the AIDA International certification standard.
AIDA International is a non profit organization that was founded in 1992 to further the development of freediving. Over the years AIDA International have defined disciplines in freediving and recognize and authenticate world records achieved in these disciplines.
AIDA International is made up of world class freedivers who are passionate about the sport of freediving. The AIDA International education standard is a high quality education programme that incorporates the knowledge and experience of world class freedivers, dive professionals and scientists and is recognized worldwide.

This course is designed for the complete newcomer with no prior experience of the undersea world or for the keen snorkeler who would like to learn some basic principles to enhance their experience.
This will consist of an initial introduction on dry land to what it is that we do, along with a demonstration of the equipment used and a brief talk on the basics of breath, technique and of course, safety. We will then put this into practice in one of the wonderful sheltered bays which Ibiza has to offer.
Course length: 1 day
Requirements: Be at least 18 years old, (or 16 with parent or guardian consent), and have no medical contraindications for freediving (provide medical certification).
Includes: Freediving equipment and insurance.

This course will open the first door to the wonderful world of Freediving. Here you will learn some of the fundamentals such as mental and physical relaxation, breathing techniques, equalisation of the ears along with fundamental safety practices. The course consists of a short theory session, followed by a shallow water session in a pool or in a sheltered bay, ending with an open water session to try out these new sensations.

This course is for the initiated diver who would like to take things to the next level. Over two days with theory and in-water sessions you will learn the skill set you need to enjoy open water freediving, along with theory in the physiological changes which occur in the body, relaxation, breathing techniques, safety and the equipment used.
Course length: 2 days
Requirements: Be at least 18 years old, (or 16 with parent or guardian consent), and have no medical contraindications for freediving (provide medical certification).
Includes: Freediving equipment, student’s kit, freediving insurance and AIDA 2 Certification.
This course is for those who have grasped and mastered the skill set and really want to unlock the door to the wonders of the deep. This course is THE start of deep freediving! Advanced Freedivers are trained to dive up to -30m. You will be able to really experience the sensations around you and within.
Much of the course will be spent building on the skills learnt in the AIDA 2 course, learning and practicing free-fall technique, advanced Frenzel equalization techniques and training tables. Plus you will gain further knowledge in the physiology, the techniques and safety aspects and become proficient in the various different disciplines of freediving.
This course opens up a whole new world of diving and offers the first glimpse into what competitive freedivers experience. It is also a great course to enhance your rescue and buddy skills.
Theory:
- Buoyancy, proper weighting and free falling.
- Physiology and equalizing, including the Frenzel technique.
- Concept of using CO2 table to improve CO2 tolerance and performance.
- Advanced safety procedures.
- Pulmonary physiology and barotrauma.
- Mammalian Dive Reflex.
Practical sessions:
- Review basic freediving skills – diving and finning techniques.
- Thoracic stretching and visualization for deep diving.
- Master Frenzel equalization and learn the advantages of free falling: how it enhances relaxation, preserves oxygen and increases immersion times and depth.
- Improvement of static and dynamic techniques.
- Rescue scenarios at depth and on the surface, including self-rescue.
By the end of the course, students will be able to do a breath-hold of at least 2:45min, swim 55m dynamic and perform comfortable dives to between 24 and 30 meters depth.
Course length: 3 days
Requirements: Be at least 18 years old (or 16 with parental or guardian consent), be able to swim at least 400m non-stop without fins; have completed AIDA level 2 freediving course and logged at least 15 freediving sessions. Medical certification must be completed.
Includes: Freediving equipment, student’s kit, freediving insurance and AIDA 3 Certification.

AIDA 2&3 COURSE COMBO
The Freediver & Advanced Freediver Course Combo combines the first two freediving courses, with a total length of 6 days, providing the perfect opportunity for students who want to start and immediately get into deeper freediving. The integration of these two courses provides solid progression and assimilation of concepts.
Duration: 5-6 days
Requirements: Be at least 18 years old (or 16 with parental or guardian consent), be able to swim at least 400m non-stop without fins. Medical statement must be completed.
Includes: Freediving equipment and PADI Advanced Freediver certification.
