In A Nutshell

David Phillips is an avid water junkie hailing from South West England who has been using his extensive aquatic experience to teach a new generation of freedivers and share the underwater world. Currently living between Ibiza and Dahab, David Phillips teaches as an AIDA instructor and occasionally competes, all while moonlighting as a DJ.

I have spent most of my life by the sea. From living in South West England as a kid to family visits to Spain from a very early age my passion for the undersea world was ever present. My favourite childhood fantasy was the sensation of being underwater. I even have tales of my Mother coming in and taking my mask off as I lay in bed asleep. When I was around 9 years old a friend of my Dad’s who was a commercial diver taught me how to equalise my ears, and suddenly a whole new world of possibilities was presented before me.

At 12 years old my family moved to Spain and my bond with the ocean grew stronger, spearfishing and diving the depths as a teenager. Meanwhile a love of music began to blossom and after school years this took me took me to Ibiza where I worked as a globetrotting Dj for 15 years, before eventually turning to a career in hospitality running my own Hotel in Salinas National Park. All this time I was never far from the the depths and the underwater beauty which Ibiza has in bundles. Whenever times got tough, or I needed a reset or simply ME time I would turn to the undersea world for comfort and inspiration.
